Imré (pronounced eem-ray) is a kind, patient and thoughtful young driving instructor who explains complex driving concepts in clear, bite-sized steps. Over two years of full-time driver training, he has built his teaching around one belief: students learn best in a calm, supportive and safe environment where they're free to experiment and make mistakes. Lessons learned this way stick, and they're recalled more consistently on future drives, an approach that works especially well for students with busy lives and schedules.
For fast learners, Imré offers the opportunity to go from their very first drive to their final driving assessment in under 10 lessons. For nervous or first-time drivers, his calm, reassuring manner helps them settle in quickly, and he makes sure every student knows he will only work at a pace they're comfortable with and ready for. He often asks students to rate their nervousness or anxiety out of 10 before a drive, then checks in on that score throughout the lesson. It's this level of care that makes him a trusted guide from day one.
When driving with Imré, you'll quickly notice how much he loves questions. He encourages every student to be curious, and no question is ever too obvious or "stupid." He's naturally curious himself, too, and will often take the time to learn about his students' hobbies, interests and future career ambitions.
That curiosity is matched by a strong technical understanding, shaped by extensive work with rehabilitation clients, NDIS participants and mobility clients who use driving aids such as hand controls. Imré adapts each lesson to suit a wide range of abilities and needs, and he regularly facilitates courses, which highlights his communication skills and his talent for turning complex concepts into clear, manageable steps. His dedication to safety and structured teaching style make him a reliable mentor for learners who need extra support or specialised instruction.
Students value Imré's balance of calm reassurance and practical, hands-on guidance. He notices the small details that matter, celebrates progress and makes every lesson purposeful without ever feeling pressured. It's not unusual for students to get caught up in conversation with him or listen to music during a lesson, and that's by design. Distraction is a leading cause of collisions among provisional drivers, so Imré exposes learners to realistic driving conditions early, helping them build resilience and self-awareness around distractions before they drive solo. As he puts it, lessons don't need to be dull to be effective!
Imré is also developing a unique new platform, for himself and other driver trainers, that tracks student progress digitally. He is currently the only instructor able to offer parents a digital lesson report after every lesson, outlining the competencies covered and any notes recorded along the way. He also provides digital assessment reports that record every mistake and noteworthy behaviour observed during an assessment, which have become a student favourite.
Outside of work, Imré enjoys playing basketball, driving his manual GR86, checking out live music events, trying new and different restaurants in canberra with his girlfriend, and watching sitcoms and movies.
