Occupational Therapy Driving Assessments

We offer specialized evaluations for residents in ACT and NSW

Occupational Therapist Driving Assessments are carried out by an occupational therapist to see if a person can drive safely and comfortably. It is usually recommended when someone has had a medical condition, injury, or changes with age that could affect their ability to drive.

The assessment isn’t about passing or failing like a regular driving test, it’s about understanding how well a person’s vision, thinking, movement, and reactions work together on the road. Part of the assessment is done off road (in our offices), and the other part is done in a car with an instructor and the OT. Afterwards, the OT writes a report to help decide if the person can keep driving as they are, if they might need some changes (like special car modifications or only driving in certain conditions), or if it may be safer to stop driving.
This report that either is sent to NDIS (by the client) for funding or sent to ACT or NSW Gov so they can complete their evaluation. Occupational Therapist Driving Assessments are all about supporting independence while keeping the driver and the community safe.
